The Art of a Sustainable Practice

An Ashtanga Yoga Week With Tom Norrington-Davies

27th February to 6th March 2027

This retreat offers a warm, grounded immersion in Ashtanga Yoga guided by Tom Norrington Davies, a longtime Mysore practitioner, authorised teacher, and former award-winning chef who understands first-hand how to sustain a meaningful practice alongside the demands of everyday life.

Mornings are devoted to Mysore-style self practice, with attentive guidance to support everyone from complete beginners to seasoned practitioners.  Optional Chanting and Pranayama deepen the morning sessions, while afternoons unfold into restorative Yoga Nidra, thoughtful workshops, and space for reflection.

Tom’s teaching is light-hearted, non-dogmatic, and rooted in deep respect for the tradition, creating an environment that is safe, nurturing, and genuinely restorative. Whether you are curious to explore Ashtanga for the first time or seeking a true reset in beautiful, natural surroundings, this retreat invites you to slow down, reconnect, and rediscover a sustainable, joyful relationship with practice.

Sunday 28th February & Thursday 4th March
4-6pm:        Yoga Nidra, Guided Meditation
Often described as the yoga of sleep, a guided Nidra session is a deeply relaxing reset of mind and body.  It’s so restorative we’re going to do it twice!

Monday 1st March & Wednesday 3rd March
4-6pm:       Afternoon workshop - Practice Related
I like to tailor the content of these to the suit the make-up and energy of the group, rather than fix the themes before we all get to meet.  That said, the focus of these sessions will be on how we can deepen our understanding of why we practice, and what we can do to make it more sustainable once we return to our daily lives.  Popular themes for these sessions are: the magic of the Tristhana, the true meaning of vinyasa and why it’s such a powerful modern method, how to keep your practice free of self judgment and how to never lose your sense of humour.

Saturday 6th March
9am:       Check-out, followed by breakfast, a quick debrief and farewell hugs!

About the Teacher

Tom Norrington Davies
Tom is a longtime student and teacher of Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga, as well as a cook and writer. In a career spanning twenty five years he was Head Chef at London’s original Gastro - Pub, The Eagle, for a decade.  From there he went on to open 32 Great Queen Street, which won best British restaurant at the 2008 Evening Standard awards.  In that same year he discovered the life enhancing practice of Ashtanga Yoga, through which he found a way to manage the stresses of running a busy kitchen.  This path eventually led Tom to Mysore where he practiced for many years with Sharath Jois.  He was authorised to teach in 2013.

Ever since then Tom has bought his experience of practicing while working long, irregular hours to his teaching style.  His classes, workshops and retreats are light - hearted and non dogmatic, whilst rooted in a deep love and respect for the practice. Tom’s teaching style will ensure that your yoga practice is safe, nurturing and sustainable, whatever life is throwing at you in the outside world. This is the perfect retreat for you if you are a beginner looking to explore,  or a seasoned practitioner seeking a genuine rest and re-set. Or maybe you would relish the chance to make practice the focus of your day in warm, beautiful and natural surroundings.

Practical Information About The Retreat Centre

Our retreat centre, Finca Naranjas (previously known as Cristoforo), is a simple yet deeply beautiful sanctuary nestled in the heart of South Tenerife. It was lovingly designed by architect Denis Devaris, who envisioned it as a meeting place for spiritual seekers. Built slowly over the course of 30 years using volcanic rock from the island, each room carries its own unique charm, full of character, thoughtful details, and personal touches.

As with many soulful spaces, a little imperfection is part of the experience. The plumbing system may not be up to modern standards, but the buildings are deeply rooted in the land and surrounded by a lush, thriving garden. Finca Naranjas truly feels like a hidden oasis.

If you're joining us during the cooler months (December - March), please be sure to pack some warmer layers. Mornings and evenings can be quite chilly, and while the rooms aren’t heated, they are equipped with cozy duvets and plenty of blankets to keep you comfortable.

Please note that the internet connection at the retreat center is currently not reliable. If you depend on internet access for work, we recommend bringing mobile data on your phone, which you can use to create a hotspot for your laptop if necessary. Mobile phone reception in the area is strong and consistent.

There is also a café about 10 minutes from the retreat with a reliable internet connection. However, it tends to be busy and may not be the most suitable environment for focused work.

The Meals

Our meals are prepared with love by our wonderful retreat chefs, offering fresh, wholesome dishes that are entirely vegetarian and mostly vegan. Wherever possible, we use local and organic ingredients to support both your wellbeing and the surrounding environment. Occasionally, eggs or dairy may be included in some meals.

If you have any food allergies or sensitivities, please let us know in advance.  Gluten-free options are available.

We also have a self-service tea and coffee station available throughout the day, and we do our best to provide fresh fruit for light snacking between meals.  You’re welcome to enjoy your meals either indoors or outside in the peaceful beauty of our garden.

The Practice

Our retreat offers an intimate practice setting, with a maximum of 25 students and morning classes limited to 16 participants for a more personal experience.

Sessions are held in our beautiful wooden garden Shala. During full retreats, Savasana is often enjoyed outdoors to create space in the Shala, and some afternoon workshops may also take place outside.

Please pack warm layers for practice, especially for Savasana, as mornings and evenings can be chilly.

Arrival & Departure

Rooms will be ready from 3 PM on arrival day. The retreat begins with a welcome meeting at 6 PM, followed by dinner at 6:30 PM.  We kindly ask all students to arrive in time for the introduction.

Our first practice session takes place on Sunday morning, and the final practice is on Friday morning. Check-out is on Saturday at 9 AM.
