Join Rose Ann for a full week in the beautiful surroundings of Purple Valley, Tenerife. During this week long retreat you will have the perfect opportunity to dive deeply into your practice, nourishing, absorbing and developing a sense of inquiry, space, grounding and curiosity.  

This yoga retreat is based on the traditional method of learning Ashtanga yoga with Rose Ann guiding you every step of the way.  Rose Ann’s vast experience and knowledge will guide you in the nourishing, supportive and beautiful surroundings of Purple Valley, Tenerife. 

The retreat is open for all levels of practitioners – from beginners to advanced.

Retreat schedule

Each morning starts with Pranayama and Mysore style practice where each student will receive individual support and guidance to develop and transform the Ashtanga practice.  The afternoons will offer 4 workshops.  Each afternoon workshop will end with a guided relaxation.

Morning Asana Class: 8 am
Pranayama and meditation followed by Led Class

Brunch from 10.30 am

Afternoon Workshop Class: 4 pm
Hip Openers: The aim of this workshop is to create space whilst stabilising and mobilising the hip area; flexibility in the hips is key to keeping fit and healthy.

Dinner: 6:30 pm

Monday, 10 June
Morning Asana Class: 8 am Pranayama and meditation followed by Mysore and/or Led Class

Brunch from 10.30 am

Afternoon Workshop Class: 4 pm
The Mechanics of Back bending: Requires the shoulder and hip flexors to be opened, the quads and arms and upper back awakened. When these parts of the body work together a backbend lengthens and opens the spine.

Dinner: 6:30 pm

Arm balancing: This workshop offers lots of fun while  exploring and consolidating your knowledge and experience of postures such as bhujapidasana, bakasana and pincha mayurasana.

Brunch: 10.30 am

Q&A and Revision
This workshop is an opportunity to revise and consolidate all we have learned throughout the week.  Allowing students the opportunity to bring questions that may have come up during practice sessions as well as the workshops.

Rose Ann
Rose Ann is a highly experienced senior yoga teacher accredited by Yoga Alliance Professionals. She started to practice in 2005 and she started to teach in 2008. Her personal inquiry into the realms of yoga and practice practice over the years it have taken her to London, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Italy, Spain, Germany, Goa and the home of Ashtanga, Mysore, in Southern India. She has studied with Sharath, grandson of the famous grandson of Sri K Pattabhi Jois, both in London and in Mysore as well as studying with a number of senior teachers within the ashtanga world, including John Scott, Scott Johnson, David Keil, Petri Raisanen, Paul Dallaghan, Kino McGregor, Andrea Lutz and more recently Manju Jois and, the last to be certified by Pattabhi Jois, Phillipa Asher. Rose Ann has studied pranayama with OP Tiwari and Ayurveda with Diana Kras, a consultant with Maharishi Ayurveda and approved trainer for College of Ayurveda (UK).

Rose Ann is the founder of Yogarose established in 2010 and also teaches in various yoga studios including Merchant City Yoga where she assists with the CYS teacher training programme and regularly delivers weeklong intensive Mysore classes.

Rose Ann’s background is from the fitness industry and was focused heavily, especially in the early years, of high intensity and cardiovascular training. Rose Ann first started to explore practicing yoga to counter the effects of her physically demanding work.  Aware that she required dynamic stretches to prevent injuries, discovering Ashtanga was a complete revelation.  Her daily practice extends to her whole life, family and is part of who she is. Ashtanga yoga has given the realisation of what is important to her. Rose Ann is dedicated to teaching traditional Ashtanga yoga and loves sharing her knowledge and experience with the emphasis on enjoying yoga, whilst never losing the traditional teachings passed down from teacher to student.

Practical details about the retreat center

Currently the internet at the retreat is not reliable. If you are dependent on internet for work, we ask you to bring your own data on your phone, to which you can connect your laptop, if needed. Phones work very well. There is also a cafe 10 minutes from the retreat with good internet, however, it is a busy cafe and not very suitable for work. 

Cristoforo, our retreat centre is a very simple yet beautiful place, built by an architect named Denis Devaris, who had an intention to create a meeting point for Spiritual seekers. Built slowly over 30 years using volcanic rocks from the island, the rooms are all unique with their own distinct personalities featuring beautiful details and personal touches. Given the nature of these types of buildings, imperfection is to be expected with a plumbing system not quite up to modern standards! However, set right into the land with a wonderfully lush garden, Cristoforo really is an oasis in South Tenerife. When packing for your retreat, make sure you add warmer clothes. From December till March the mornings and evenings can be quite chilly. The rooms are not heated, but are equipped with cozy duvets and blankets.

The closest beach is 20 min by walk from Cristoforo in Callo Salvaje. We now have a free shuttle bus service to the closest beaches.

The meals
The food served at the retreat will be mainly vegan and completely vegetarian, prepared freshly everyday by our wonderful retreat chefs. We try were possible to use local and organic products. We sometimes use eggs or dairy in the kitchen. If you have food allergies/sensitivities, please let us know. Gluten free options are available. We have a self service tea & coffee station for guest use and try to provide fruit for snacking during the day.
You have the option to enjoy your food either inside or outside in the beautiful garden.

The practice
Maximum number of students is 25.
Morning classes will be taught with maximum 16 students in each class.

Practice will take place inside the beautiful wooden garden Shala. Savasana is usually taken outside to make space in the Shala, especially during full retreats and occasionally afternoon workshops will take place outside. Make sure you pack warm practice clothes for Savasana.

Arrival day and check out. 
The rooms are available after 3pm. The retreat starts with an introduction meeting at 5pm, followed by dinner at 6.30pm. All students should aim to arrive for the introduction meeting. The first practice is on Sunday morning and the last practice is on Friday in the morning. The check out is on Saturday at 9am.

The premium rooms are the largest rooms at the retreat. These rooms have attached indoor bathrooms.

The budget rooms are the smallest rooms at the retreat. Some of the rooms share bathrooms, a few of them are outdoors bathrooms. In a few of the rooms there may have disturbance from the road.

Dormitory (3 people sharing)
The dormitory is a spacious room for 3 people.

The accommodation price is all-inclusive (includes accommodation, all meals and yoga). There is an option to pay a deposit of 50% of the full amount to secure your place. The deposit is non-refundable and the balance must be paid at least 4 weeks prior to the start date.
