Ashtanga Yoga | Pranayama | Mindfulness

A 1 or 2-week retreat with Kia Naddermier and Scott Johnson

26th February to 5th March, 5th March to 12th March 2022

Kia Naddermier Retreat

With over 20 years' experience of teaching daily Mysore between them, Kia and Scott are highly skilled, sensitive and deeply passionate Ashtanga yoga teachers. They bring integrity and warmth to the long term relationships they've nurtured as they've built their Mysore communities over the years at Stillpoint Yoga London and Mysore Yoga Paris. They look forward to working deeply together and share their combined teachings of Ashtanga, pranayama, mindfulness and adjustments at Hacienda Cristoforo.

Scott & Kia's retreat integrates the philosophy and practice of Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga with traditional pranayama and mindfulness meditation. During the retreat we look deeper into these practices to cultivate an understanding of yoga as a whole, involving all aspects – body, breath and mind. This will take your practice to the next level of awareness, allowing its subtleties to fully unfold and blossom.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with both Kia and Scott whose combined teachings include extensive experience of Ashtanga yoga Mysore-style, profound knowledge of breath, pranic energy, subtle and physical anatomy, mindfulness and hands-on adjustments.

They offer an inclusive, warm and inspiring space open for personal exploration and inquiry. Kia and Scott are excited to bring their beautiful Mysore communities together to share the universal language of yoga!

This retreat is open for all levels of practitioners – from beginners to advanced.

Retreat schedule

We open our mornings with silent sitting and mindfulness with Scott. Cultivating deep awareness at the beginning of the day allows us to develop skills that help us to drop into the experience of our lives. Kia will also introduce everyone to the essential practices of classical kriyas (yogic purification techniques) as per Hatha Pradipika and Gerhanda Samhita.

This will be followed by Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga classes, where you'll receive individual guidance and adjustments from Scott, Kia and their highly experienced assisting team. Those new to the practice will be introduced to Mysore-style self-practice, whilst experienced practitioners will develop their personal practice.

Afternoons will be dedicated to the philosophy and practice of traditional pranayamas and kriyas with Kia and exploring mindful principles of Ashtanga yoga, including hands-on adjustments with Scott.

The practice of pranayama takes us beyond the physical aspects of yoga to the next level of awareness. In these sessions Kia will allow us to deepen our appreciation of the subtleties of breath and its significance in yogic practices and philosophy. New students will be introduced to classical pranayamas and kriyas, whilst those with more experience will refine and deepen their practice and understanding.

Kia may also offer pulse-reading and personalised practices to those who are staying for the full 2 weeks and are established in pranayama in the lineage of Kaivalyadham.

In Scott's afternoon sessions we'll be looking at how practice becomes deeper when we cultivate true awareness. These classes will include techniques, hands-on adjustments and cultivating mindful qualities of practice.
