The winter practice immersion is all about renewing our relationship to yoga.  Over the course of a full month, we ask the crucial question of what yoga is all about, and how we can use yoga practice to bring new clarity and creative energy into our lives.  Instead of stilted answers, we give ourselves space—space to unravel, space to reflect, and space to experience yoga anew, as we open the subtle channels of our bodies, and allow our vital forces to move.

Our sustained immersion in yogic practice and reflection is designed to bring us back into alignment—not with old books and traditions, but with the deeper intelligence from which yoga begins, the intelligence that already animates us from the inside.  In this immersion, we use yoga practice just as tradition intends, to reconnect to our natural intelligence, so it can wash through our bodies and minds, clearing away the sediment of the past, and revealing our natural spaciousness.

In the space that opens up, we can look together, with open eyes, at the astonishing reality of our embodiment.  And in that space of mutual clarity, the real yoga can begin.  We can rediscover together what yoga can be.  And the enchantment of being together, on this blue earth, in these beautiful, breathing bodies, can flow back into us.

Course description

This course is designed as a one month immersion. However, it is possible to join for 2 weeks only.

Our mornings begin with Mysore-style asana practice (assisted and self-directed), followed by guided pranayama and chanting.  In the afternoons, we gather together to explore philosophy, mythology, alignment and technique.  There will be a strong emphasis on the psychodynamics of asana, pranayama and meditation, and a study of the broader archetypal movement of yogic development, as revealed in different ways by the classical, Tantric and Puranic traditions.

In the spirit of authentic yoga, we listen deeply to the wisdom of these traditions, and we hold them up to the light of our reflective consciousness.  Instead of bending under the weight of old ideas, we ask how the wisdom they symbolize can illuminate our experience of yoga now, in this unprecedented time, and how we can do our part in bringing the deeper truth of yoga to expression.

In all of our explorations, we follow the subtle reflexes of our hearts, relearning in each moment how to hear our natural intelligence, and allow its brilliance to blossom.
