A journey into the depths of Ashtanga Yoga

A Two Week Retreat with Darby and Joanne

The purpose of this workshop is to develop a deeper understanding of Ashtanga and take your personal practice to the next level. It is very suitable for junior practitioners and beginners, who will have a clear understanding of this system. For those who are already practicing Ashtanga or are more advanced practitioners, this workshop will bring a new dimension to their practice.

Darby’s and Joanne’s work is a re-interpretation of the tradition so the western mind can grasp the essence of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Method in its purest simplicity, with its infinite potential and the possibility to meet each individual where they stand.

May you find nourishment in this practice, enjoying its sweetness and welcoming its bitterness as it is also medicine.

About the teachers

Darby & Joanne have been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for over 40 years. They began their practice with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the master of Ashtanga Yoga, in 1979 and spent four years studying with him in Mysore, India.

They give workshops all over Europe, Asia, Canada and the United States. In 2004, Darby released his video, The Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series.

Joanne is a source of inspiration to many yoga students around the world. For her, yoga goes beyond the asana practice…it is a way of life. After so many years of practice, she truly believes in the power, benefits and the transformative effect of the ashtanga yoga method.

Darby places particular emphasis on the combination of Ashtanga yoga pose and breathing, saying that if yoga is not combined with breathing, it cannot be called yoga. Darby uses a lively and direct teaching method to teach students the essence of yoga energy. His humorous teaching and sustained focus have attracted followers from all over the world. Darby has been invited many times to conduct workshops for yoga enthusiasts around the world and to help improve students awareness of body adjustments. Darby conveys his knowledge, experience and insight in the most precise and practical way possible. The teacher is always learning and his teaching is different every time.

Contrary to everyone’s stereotype of Ashtanga as serious and strict, Darby and Joanne are very humorous and loving yoga teachers. After a 40 years of teaching and practicing ashtanga yoga, they do not only teach you how to do yoga, they are yoga itself.
