Winter School Intensive: The Field of Yoga

2 week retreat with Luke Jordan

30 January - 13  February 2027

The Field of Yoga: Two Weeks of Practice, Community and Self-Discovery

If you are looking for a yoga holiday, this is not the place.  If you would like to explore more deeply what yoga really is, within a living field of practice, inquiry, and authentic connection with like-minded others, then you may feel at home here.

While daily yoga practice forms the backbone of this retreat, it is not primarily about postures. It is about deepening inquiry within the living field we create when we intentionally come together.

For two weeks we gather as a community committed to practice, presence, authentic connection, and self-inquiry.  Together we create a field.  A space in which to question old assumptions and encounter ourselves and one another just as we are, without the need to perform.  A field of open possibility.

The daily rhythm of traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga Yoga and Vedic chanting forms the foundation.  The container.  Yet what emerges within that container is often the real gift.

Meaningful connections.  Moments of insight.  The peeling away of layers.  A sense of belonging.  A deeper connection to ourselves, to one another, and to life itself.

For two weeks we create the conditions for something increasingly rare in modern life: a genuine community of practitioners exploring not only how to practice yoga, but how to live it and meet life moment by moment.

Sometimes people arrive expecting a yoga retreat.  What they often discover is a community and a deeper sense of connection to themselves.

More Than a Yoga Retreat

There are plenty of places to learn yoga.  There are far fewer opportunities to spend two weeks immersed in a group of people genuinely interested in authenticity, growth, and truth.

This retreat is an invitation into that experience.  What emerges over the course of these two weeks is more than a schedule of classes and workshops.  Together we create a field of shared intention and exploration.  A space in which practice, inquiry, relationship, humour, celebration, and community begin to support one another.

It is our being together as a unique collection of individuals that creates this powerful field of possibility.
Not something that can be taught.
Not something that can be planned.
But something that naturally emerges when people come together with sincerity, curiosity, and a willingness to be real.

In a world increasingly characterised by distraction, speed, and superficial connection, we create a nourishing and protective space that supports both our own unfolding and the unfolding of others who are equally interested in what it means to live well, love well, and wake up to life.

The Foundation: Practice

Each morning begins with traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga Yoga practice followed by Vedic chanting.  These practices provide the foundation for everything else.  Together they create a stable ground from which deeper exploration can unfold.
Following the tradition of Patanjali, this retreat approaches yoga less as a sequence of postures to be mastered and more as an opening into a living inquiry of experience itself.

We move:
From achievement to awareness.
From performance to presence.
From mastering the practice to allowing the practice to reveal something about ourselves.
Ultimately, we move toward the timeless question:

Who am I?
The Journey of Self-Discovery
At the heart of this retreat lies one of humanity's oldest and most profound inquiries:

Who am I?
Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Ramana Maharshi and the contemplative traditions of India, we approach this question not as a philosophical puzzle but as a living exploration.
Through guided inquiry, contemplative exercises, journaling, and group dialogue, participants are invited into a deeper encounter with themselves and with life.

Many of us spend years trying to become somebody.  This retreat offers an opportunity to pause, investigate, and share who we already are.  Not through belief.  Not through ideology.  But through direct experience.

The Relational Path

Most spiritual traditions emphasise solitude.  This retreat honours something equally important.  We discover ourselves through relationship.  We are together on this journey, supporting one another in our growth and inquiry.  We are alone, and yet we are in community.

Underpinning the workshops is inspiration drawn from the work of Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication, a practical way of bringing awareness into communication and connection.  We will explore tools for cultivating empathy, authenticity, presence, and consciousness in relation to ourselves and each other.  The field itself becomes relational.
A field that allows openness with others to coexist alongside one's own inner exploration.
We discover that relationship is not separate from spiritual practice.
It is spiritual practice.
It is yoga.

A Self-Inquiry Retreat Experience

During the middle weekend of our time together we enter the culmination of our journey: a one-and-a-half-day Self-Inquiry Retreat Experience inspired by the Enlightenment Intensive process developed by Charles Berner.

Drawing upon Berner's pioneering work, this immersive process combines contemplation and authentic communication in a carefully structured format designed to support a direct encounter with who we truly are.

Working with inquiry partners, participants engage repeatedly with the question:  Who am I?
This process is an invitation to encounter ourselves and reality with greater openness, honesty, and immediacy.  No particular experience is promised.  Yet profound insights often emerge when sincere inquiry unfolds within a supportive field of practice, presence, and authentic human connection.

Community

In many ways, the greatest gift of this retreat will not be found in any single workshop, practice, or exercise.  It will be found in the people.  The unique collection of individuals with whom you will share these two weeks.  People who care about living consciously.  People who value honesty over performance.  Depth over appearance.  Connection over competition.
In a culture that often encourages comparison and separation, there is something deeply healing about participating in a field built upon practice, inquiry, sincerity, and mutual support.
Many participants arrive hoping to deepen their yoga practice.  They leave with something they never expected: A community.

Held with Care

This retreat will be facilitated by Luke Jordan and supported by Silvia Di Renzo and Mercedes Parellada.

Together we aim to cultivate an environment that balances depth with lightness, sincerity with playfulness, and profound inquiry with genuine human warmth.

There will be meaningful conversations.
There will be moments of silence.
There will be challenge.
There will be discovery.

And there will also be laughter, friendship, celebration, and joy.  Because the deepest spiritual work is not separate from life.  It is life.  And the field we create together is nourished as much by shared meals, spontaneous conversations, and laughter as it is by practice and inquiry.

Is This Retreat For You?

This retreat is not for everyone.  If your primary interest is learning advanced postures or refining technique, there are many wonderful retreats dedicated to that.

This retreat is for those who feel called by something deeper.  For those who sense that yoga is about more than physical practice.  For those who long for authentic connection.  For those who value both rigorous practice and genuine community.  For those who are curious about who they are beneath the roles they play and the stories they carry.  For those who wish to spend two weeks in the company of fellow practitioners exploring one of life's most important questions.  Not merely how to practice yoga.  But how to live it.

If you are looking for more than a yoga retreat—if you are looking for practice, friendship, inquiry, community, and a deeper encounter with yourself—we would be delighted to welcome you.

About the Teacher

Luke Jordan is a rare blend of devoted practitioner, lifelong student, storyteller, Sanskrit nerd, and spiritual rebel. With over 25 years of dedicated practice, he brings a nuanced and deeply personal understanding of Ashtanga Yoga, shaped by immersive study in Mysore, Sanskrit and philosophy training, and the honest inquiries of his own path.

Luke is known for holding a space that is both deep and grounded, wise and human. He welcomes paradox, doesn’t shy away from challenge, and invites you to show up as you are.

What makes Luke’s retreats unique is not just the quality of the Ashtanga guidance, but the rich context he brings—myth, mantra, spiritual humor, and his unapologetically human take on the yogic path. Expect depth. Expect delight. Expect to laugh, maybe cry—and leave with something unexpected, but very real.

Practical Information About The Retreat Centre

Our retreat centre, Finca Naranjas (previously known as Cristoforo), is a simple yet deeply beautiful sanctuary nestled in the heart of South Tenerife. It was lovingly designed by architect Denis Devaris, who envisioned it as a meeting place for spiritual seekers. Built slowly over the course of 30 years using volcanic rock from the island, each room carries its own unique charm, full of character, thoughtful details, and personal touches.

As with many soulful spaces, a little imperfection is part of the experience. The plumbing system may not be up to modern standards, but the buildings are deeply rooted in the land and surrounded by a lush, thriving garden. Finca Naranjas truly feels like a hidden oasis.

If you're joining us during the cooler months (December - March), please be sure to pack some warmer layers. Mornings and evenings can be quite chilly, and while the rooms aren’t heated, they are equipped with cozy duvets and plenty of blankets to keep you comfortable.

Please note that the internet connection at the retreat center is currently not reliable. If you depend on internet access for work, we recommend bringing mobile data on your phone, which you can use to create a hotspot for your laptop if necessary. Mobile phone reception in the area is strong and consistent.

There is also a café about 10 minutes from the retreat with a reliable internet connection. However, it tends to be busy and may not be the most suitable environment for focused work.

The Meals

Our meals are prepared with love by our wonderful retreat chefs, offering fresh, wholesome dishes that are entirely vegetarian and mostly vegan. Wherever possible, we use local and organic ingredients to support both your wellbeing and the surrounding environment. Occasionally, eggs or dairy may be included in some meals.

If you have any food allergies or sensitivities, please let us know in advance.  Gluten-free options are available.

We also have a self-service tea and coffee station available throughout the day, and we do our best to provide fresh fruit for light snacking between meals.  You’re welcome to enjoy your meals either indoors or outside in the peaceful beauty of our garden.

The Practice

Our retreat offers an intimate practice setting, with a maximum of 25 students and morning classes limited to 16 participants for a more personal experience.

Sessions are held in our beautiful wooden garden Shala. During full retreats, Savasana is often enjoyed outdoors to create space in the Shala, and some afternoon workshops may also take place outside.

Please pack warm layers for practice, especially for Savasana, as mornings and evenings can be chilly.
