Ashtanga Yoga, Pranayama, Mindfulness Sadhana

Awakening Body, Breath & HeartMind with Kia Naddermier

24 February to 2 March 2024

Kia integrates the philosophy & practice of  an embodied approach to Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style with classical Pranayama, Kriyas and Mindfulness Meditation. Being a devoted practitioner in both Yogic and Buddhist traditions she draws heavily from both streams of wisdom. During the retreat we steep into these somatic practices and teachings to cultivate an understanding of yoga as a whole. We journey deep within the wilderness of our own embodiment to grow a practice intimately rooted in our lived experience. This entrustment to the home ground of our body and breath creates a deep sense of belonging and compassion that reaches far beyond our yoga mat.

Join Kia for a full week of practice, offering space for abundant individual guidance and support to deepen your personal Sadhana. With a sincere dedication to the development of each of her students, she offers a non-dogmatic, inclusive and creative space supportive of personal exploration and inquiry.

Kia will share insights and guidance as we allow space for daily Mysore practice, Pranayama, Kriyas, Mindfulness Mediation and Philosophy. This multifaceted approach to practice yields exceptional rewards as it moves us towards unveiling the innate wisdom of our embodiment, allowing its subtleties to fully come alive.

“The practice of yoga is not about transcending our physical embodiment, but about becoming truly intimate with every facet of this multi-dimensional universe that we inhabit.”

Kia Naddermier

The retreat is open for all levels, but you need to have an established Mysore Style - self practice.

Retreat schedule

Each week consists of 6 morning classes and 4 afternoon workshops.

Morning Practice

We open our mornings with Mindfulness Meditation, cultivating deep awareness as we align body, breath, heart and mind. Kia may guide through our first postures setting a common intention before continuing with our personal Mysore practice where we receive individual guidance and adjustments. With a sincere dedication to the growth and development of each of her students, Kia offers an inclusive, safe and inspiring space supportive of personal exploration and inquiry.

A couple of led classes may also be offered to refine our awareness of energetic movements, internal and physical actions and principles of practice.

Afternoon Sessions

Afternoons will be dedicated to the philosophy and practice of traditional Pranayamas in the lineage of Kaivalyadham as well as Meditation, Satsang and exploring energetic principles of Yoga Asana.

These subtler practices take us beyond the physical aspects of yoga to the next level of awareness. We deepen our appreciation of the many layers of the breath and its significance in yogic practices and philosophy.

New students will be mindfully introduced to classical Pranayama & Kriyas, whilst those with more experience will refine and deepen their practice and understanding.

Teacher

Kia Naddermier has been a devoted Ashtanga Yoga practitioner for almost 30 years. She founded Mysore Yoga Paris in 2011. MYP has since grown to become a global yoga community dedicated to an embodied, wholistic approach to practice.

Kia’s teachings integrate her profound knowledge of the philosophy and practice of all aspects of yoga – Asana, subtle and physical anatomy, Meditation, Kriyas, Pranayama. She is one of the first – and very few – Pranayama teachers to be certified at the highest level within the Kaivalyadham lineage. Being a dedicated Buddhist meditation practitioner, her teaching draws extensively from both Yogic and Buddhist traditions.

Kia shares her wisdom and understanding with authenticity, clarity and generosity, making these ancient teachings relevant in our daily lives as a means for spiritual growth and inner healing. Her deep love and years of dedication to all aspects of practice shine through in her insightful, inspirational and compassionate teaching. Practitioners return year after year to benefit from the continuous evolution of her research, practice and teaching.

She is the co-creator of the much appreciated podcast Mysore Yoga Paris - Closer Together offering free practice resources available for all.

Practical details about the retreat center

Currently the internet at the retreat is not reliable. If you are dependent on internet for work, we ask you to bring your own data on your phone, to which you can connect your laptop, if needed. Phones work very well. There is also a cafe 10 minutes from the retreat with good internet, however, it is a busy cafe and not very suitable for work.

Finca Naranjas (previously Cristoforo), our retreat centre is a very simple yet beautiful place, built by an architect named Denis Devaris, who had an intention to create a meeting point for Spiritual seekers. Built slowly over 30 years using volcanic rocks from the island, the rooms are all unique with their own distinct personalities featuring beautiful details and personal touches. Given the nature of these types of buildings, imperfection is to be expected with a plumbing system not quite up to modern standards! However, set right into the land with a wonderfully lush garden, Cristoforo really is an oasis in South Tenerife. When packing for your retreat, make sure you add warmer clothes. From December till March the mornings and evenings can be quite chilly. The rooms are not heated, but are equipped with cozy duvets and hot water bottles for the beds. All rooms are equipped with a water kettle.

The meals
The food served at the retreat will be mainly vegan and completely vegetarian, prepared freshly everyday by our wonderful retreat chefs. We try were possible to use local and organic products. We sometimes use eggs or dairy in the kitchen. If you have food allergies/sensitivities, please let us know. Gluten free options are available. We have a self service tea & coffee station for guest use and try to provide fruit for snacking during the day.
You have the option to enjoy your food either inside or outside in the beautiful garden.

The practice
Maximum number of students is 22.

Practice will take place inside the beautiful wooden garden Shala. Savasana is usually taken outside to make space in the Shala, especially during full retreats and occasionally afternoon workshops will take place outside. Make sure you pack warm practice clothes for Savasana.

Arrival day and check out.

The rooms are available after 3pm. The retreat starts with an introduction meeting at 5pm, followed by dinner at 6.30pm. All students should aim to arrive for the introduction meeting.
