A journey into the self
A monsoon Ashtanga experience with Marta and John
6 June to 31 July 2023

Join Marta and John at the wonderful Purple Valley retreat in Goa to deepen or develop a daily routine of a self - practice known as Ashtanga Mysore Style.
Whether you are a total beginner or seasoned ashtanga practitioner, this retreat will help you to look far beyond the physical benefits and find a deeply rooted motivation and inspiration for a dedicated practice.
You don’t need to have a bendy or strong body to practice Ashtanga Yoga; all that is required is an open mind and a little bit of discipline to show up on the mat on a regular basis.
Finding a purposeful daily routine can be transformative on and off the mat, and we hope that this journey with us will help you find more meaning and beauty within your daily Sadhana.
This course is designed for both residential and non-residential guests who wish to commit for a minimum of one week and a maximum of seven weeks of practice.

Retreat schedule
From June 6th till July 31st, the schedule includes daily morning Mysore practice (Monday to Saturday), weekly led classes and weekly (twice per week) chanting and pranayama workshops as well as a welcoming space for reflection and silent meditation on the other days of the week.
Due to the nature of ashtanga practice we do not offer drop-ins for this course, but we recommend you to commit for at least one week of practice.
You can choose between just morning mysore, or decide to join morning mysore and afternoon sessions unlimited. You can start at any day of the week, however, we recommend you start on Monday. Sundays are days off from practice and a good arrival day to the retreat.

Teachers
John and Marta, the founders of Ashtanga Yoga Nilayam in Singapore are dedicated Ashtanga practitioners each with over a decade of teaching experience.
Their holistic approach to teaching is guided by the belief that everything in life happens for a reason, that every experience has something to teach us.
For Marta and John, the practice of Ashtanga Yoga has been a journey of healing to meet their bodies anew every day. They are committed to daily Sadhana, convinced that they are becoming a slightly better version of themselves every day.
Marta began her journey in Ashtanga Yoga in 2008, having previously learnt under the lineage of BNS Iyengar. John had his first experience with yoga at the tender age of 9 and has always felt a strong connection to these teachings. John and Marta met in Mysore in 2017 and began to teach together very soon after in Singapore.
Marta and John teach Ashtanga Yoga in its entirety, with appropriate emphasis on each of the eight limbs (astau-anga). They help their students appreciate Yoga beyond asana by guiding them through the practice of kriya, pranayama, meditation, and Vedic chanting. Their workshops and retreats are designed to encourage students to open up and freely exchange ideas and experiences. They often help their students encounter the first spark of the teacher within themselves.
John and Marta practice the teachings of Yoga both on and off the mat, incorporating the Yamas and Niyamas into their daily lives and relationships. They are deeply inspired by the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita and offer this knowledge and passion to their students as well.
In daily practice, Marta and John follow the traditional teaching of Sharath R. Jois from Mysore, who has given them both a Level 2 Authorisation to teach Ashtanga Yoga. To know more about Marta and John vist their website ashtanganilayam.sg and follow their instagram account @ashtanganilayam.sg
