This retreat is open for all levels of practitioners – from beginners to advanced.

Retreat schedule

Sunday to Saturday
Morning Mysore Practice 7.00am.

This retreat is designed for you to be able to practice and fine tune your handstand technique. After each Mysore practice you will have the opportunity to practice your arm-balances under the guidance of Lotta.

Sunday/Monday/Wednesday/Thursday 4pm to 6pm
All workshops will have dedicated time to questions and answers.

Sunday afternoon workshop - Simply Handstands
In this afternoon workshop you will experiment with various ways of being upside down.

The workshop will start with a short warmup for shoulders, wrists  and awakening of the core, followed by pure handstand practice. This workshop is suitable for all levels so if you’re an absolute beginner, lets get you kicking up and balancing on your hands, for those already confident on their hands, we’ll look at alignment and skills to take you to the stage in your handstand journey.
Let’s see the world upside down!

Monday afternoon workshop - Exploring backbends
This workshop will leave you equipped with knowledge needed to practice safe back bends.  The class will explore your natural potential for back bends through explorative, safe techniques mixed with creativity and laughter. The secrets of deep backbends are available to you through natural alignment techniques and streches which create openness of the front body.  The dynamic movement mechanics of bending your spine are the key to keeping you spine young.

The workshop is followed by a talk about how to develop and keep a sustainable practice.

Wednesday afternoon workshop - Open mic!
This workshop will be adjusted to the needs and requests of the group.

Thursday afternoon workshop - Hips, twists and hamstrings
Just as it sounds - this workshop focuses on opening, stretching and softening hips, twists and hamstrings.
The intention is to create space and release tension in lower back, hips and legs.

Lotta Sebzda

Lotta is an ashtanga lover, hairdresser, mother of two adult children and a grandmother to two grandchildren.

Ever since Lotta was a child, she was mostly upside down, doing handstands, cartwheels or other gymnastics. When she found Ashtanga Yoga in the late 90s it was like coming home, she says - she was immediately drawn to the practice. Lotta has been practicing yoga for over 25 years, she has been teaching ashtanga for more than 20 years.

Lotta has created one of the most inspiring IG-accounts where she not only shares her passion for the ashtanga practice but also her passion for being upside down! She is an expert in breaking down postures into tiny accessible steps which help students to experiment and progress in practice. Today, being 58 years old Lotta continues to inspire students by encouraging a curious approach to ashtanga and spirituality.

Lotta’s biggest advice to new students and to those interested in cultivating a dedicated practice is to find a senior teacher who has practiced for a long time.

Today Lotta practices and teaches with dedication, love, curiosity, energy and gratefulness. She follows the traditional Mysore style. It was taught by late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and now his grandson, R. Sharath Jois.

Practical details about the retreat center

Currently the internet at the retreat is not reliable. If you are dependent on internet for work, we ask you to bring your own data on your phone, to which you can connect your laptop, if needed. Phones work very well. There is also a cafe 10 minutes from the retreat with good internet, however, it is a busy cafe and not very suitable for work.

Finca Naranjas (previously Cristoforo) , our retreat centre is a simple yet beautiful place, built by an architect named Denis Devaris, who had an intention to create a meeting point for Spiritual seekers. Built slowly over 30 years using volcanic rocks from the island, the rooms are all unique with their own distinct personalities featuring beautiful details and personal touches. Given the nature of these types of buildings, imperfection is to be expected with a plumbing system not quite up to modern standards! However, set right into the land with a wonderfully lush garden, Finca Naranjas really is an oasis in South Tenerife. Through the years we have noticed that once the students and teachers arrive they immediately adapt to the peaceful environment, rarely wanting to leave the beautiful surroundings. Finca Naranjas is truly a retreat to retreat at! When packing for your retreat, make sure you add warmer clothes. From December till March the mornings and evenings can be quite chilly. The rooms are not heated, but are equipped with cozy duvets and blankets.

The meals
The food served at the retreat will be mainly vegan and completely vegetarian, prepared freshly everyday by our wonderful retreat chefs. We try were possible to use local and organic products. We sometimes use eggs or dairy in the kitchen. If you have food allergies/sensitivities, please let us know. Gluten free options are available. We have a self service tea & coffee station for guest use and try to provide fruit for snacking during the day.
You have the option to enjoy your food either inside or outside in the beautiful garden.

The practice
Maximum number of students is 25.
Practice will take place inside the beautiful wooden garden Shala. Savasana is usually taken outside to make space in the Shala, especially during full retreats and occasionally afternoon workshops will take place outside. Make sure you pack warm practice clothes for Savasana.

Arrival day and check out.
The rooms are available after 3pm. The retreat starts with an introduction meeting at 5pm, followed by dinner at 6.30pm. All students should aim to arrive for the introduction meeting. The first practice is on Sunday morning and the last practice is on Friday in the morning. The check out is on Saturday at 9am.
