Our yoga Shala, inspired by Goan tradition and nature, with a roof of red clay tiles and surrounded by the lush green canopy of trees, induces energy and tranquility as soon as you step into the space. The Shala is the heart of our yoga retreat centre and one of the oldest Shalas in Goa, where Ashtanga yoga has been practised and taught since 2003. The perfect place for you to deepen your yoga practice.

All meals are served on our terrace. As the main dining area, the terrace is the social zone for guests and teachers alike. It's also the only place which is wifi enabled. The spacious, airy terrace lounge is where you can eat, work, study, mingle or browse through our travelling book library and spend the day reading or hanging out on one of the day-beds.

Learning

Over the years we've been working to create an experimental learning hub at Purple Valley. A safe place where students and teachers from all over the world have come together to share their knowledge of yoga. Our aim is to continue to nurture and grow this supportive space, where teachers and students can work towards their mutual development within the field of yoga.

Togetherness

There's a sense of belonging and sharing amongst the students, guests, facilitators, staff members, chefs, teachers and the various practitioners who've been part of the retreats at Purple Valley. Alone we can be strong, but together as a community we are stronger.

Building an eco-friendly future with our local community

Yoga Journey Ltd works together with Purple Valley Yoga Retreat in Goa to build an eco-friendly future, in harmony with the local environment and community.

Yoga Journey Ltd and Purple Valley Yoga Retreat in Goa is concerned about replenishing the local natural resources. We have a reciprocal arrangement with our farming neighbours, whereby we give them our kitchen food waste and they give us natural waste from their cattle, which we use on the gardens.

The newest building has solar panels to heat the water for the guest rooms. We've built 2 water recycling plants where we recycle all the waste water. As much as possible we're planting indigenous plants in the garden.

We use standard European good employment practices, such as providing sick pay. We have a healthcare plan for our workers which includes all medicine and treatment payments. Each month, we're contributing to our employees' pension scheme.

At Purple Valley, we investigated the implications of growing our own food, but have decided that this would be taking away the livelihood of local farmers. Instead, we buy local, organic produce wherever possible. This includes our bread, yoghurt, jams and peanut butters, as well as fruit, vegetables, rice and other pulses.

We support the local high school and church with yearly donations and renovations of the school. We've helped multiple times to renovate the school. With the labour staff at Purple Valley, we often help with maintenance jobs, e.g. a new water tank, pump and taps so that the children now have safe water to drink.

If you have any suggestions about how we can extend and improve our commitment to the community and our eco-strategies, please share your ideas with us!
